Geldschöpfung aus dem Nichts: Jetzt international bestätigt!

Results from the Swiss sovereign money referendum are in: 24% of voters approved the "Vollgeld-Initiative"! While this means that the Swiss miss the chance to give the power of money creation back to the people, the result is nevertheless a great success given the high complexity of the topic and a heavy counter-campaign by the banking lobby. Especially the Swiss central bank acted as the main opposition, put out false information about the initiative and spoke of a cocktail of disaster. Given this heavy opposition and misinformation, the result was a considerable achievement. And given a voter turnout of only 34%, it is not even clear that the majority of the Swiss population is against the proposal. After all, a poll found that around 59% of Swiss people do want the central bank to have sole determination in the way that money is created.

The official press release from the Vollgeld-Initiative can be found here.

Notably, the "Vollgeld-Initiative" has been very successful in bringing the issue of monetary reform into serious academic debate and to the headlines of international media. Only few years ago it was still highly questioned if private banks do really create money and money reform activists have been considered as "cranks". Thanks to the wholehearted engagement of our colleagues from Switzerland this situation has changed considerably.

International Media about the Referendum

While our high hopes for the referendum have not materialised, our united effort for a monetary system in service of people and planet continues with growing self-confidence and strength.

It was Gandhi who said:
